Bleeding Heart | A Novel by Liza Gyllenhaal

Hi Everyone and Welcome to my blog!!

This past Friday I had just got done reading a book called Bleeding Heart by Liza Gyllenhaal I had purchased a few weeks back at Borders Book Store, sorry I meant Barnes & Noble Book Store on clearance by the way. 👌

Synopsis

“Alice Hyatt is trying to move on with her life after her husband’s disappearance; he took millions of dollars and a female accomplice with him. She finds solace and stability in her landscaping business, Green Acres. When nearby millionaire Graham Mackenzie asks her to design his garden, she can’t say no—not just because he promises to give a generous donation to her best friend’s charity, but because she wants to take on the challenge of creating the most beautiful garden in the Berkshires. Mackenzie doesn’t exactly have a spotless reputation, however—he earned his money in the hydraulic fracturing industry, and many residents aren’t happy about it. Alice’s controversial client soon causes her problems with many locals, including Tom Deaver, the environmental writer on whom she develops a crush. But Mackenzie doesn’t really cause trouble until he drops dead … – Goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20893376-bleeding-heart

Bleeding Heart chapter 22

My Thoughts

First off I must admit that usually these kinds of books don’t always catch my interest, especially ones where the main character is probably around early to middle 50’s(don’t ask why I have no idea), and is written around some heavy politics, but after reading the synopsis it seemed quite interesting and sure enough this book does deliver on it’s story as well as the characters.

The story itself definitely keeps you as a reader immersed not only in the book, but the main character Alice Hyatt who had been taken advantage of by her husband who literally disappears from existence after take millions of dollars from the company he worked for.  Only to be left to start her over and start her own business in Lawn & Gardening which seems to be very well known among many of her neighbors and friends, hence she is recommended to this very rich and well know man in the Fracking business named Mackenzie.

The main character seems for the most part very intelligent, hard working for herself and responsible women with two adult girls working and out on their own. While the main character’s best friend is sort of a…I guess you could call her a counter balance to Alice, being more “I’ll do what I want and I don’t care what other think” kind of person.

What made this book most interesting was that literally everyone and any who lives near or around Alice could potentially be the suspect in the death of Graham Mackenzie, but yet they all seem to be the most unlikely and just when it seems like the suspect has been found out…guess what?? NOPE not quite yet!!

I found this book to be very enjoying, full of mystery with intense moments around the corner every so often and some interesting stuff on what is called “fracking” which I had never heard of before, but I’m not much for politics as well as kept me wanting to turn more pages. Definitely worth the read.
